HE. Dr Kimani Wamatangi

Governor, Kiambu County

Dr Kimani Wamatangi is the fourth governor of Kiambu County.
He was elected during the August 9, 2022 elections on a United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA), which is the ruling party. Dr Wamatangi is the chairman of the Transport Committee at the Council of Governors (GoG).
He has previously served as Kiambu Senator for ten years, having been elected in March 2013 and re-elected in August 2017. During his tenure as a senator he served as the Senate Majority Whip, chairperson of the Standing Committee on Roads and Transportation, as well as vice-chairman of the Public Accounts and Investment Committee.

As a Senator, Dr Wamatangi sponsored several legislations among them, the Assumption of the Office of Governor’s Act, which provides for the procedure of the swearing in of governors and their deputies. He also sponsored an amendment to the Micro and Small Enterprise Act to boost small businesses. Besides being a politician, Dr Wamatangi is a dedicated family man,an astute businessman, and a philanthropist.

Throughout his political career, he has demonstrated excellence by putting to use his broad experience and networks where it counts.  He has continued to prominently contribute to the people of Kiambu through the Paul Kimani Wamatangi Foundation which was founded in 2006. The foundation was started with the primary objective of transforming livelihoods.

The foundation continues to benefit the youth through training and empowerment activities such as a
computer literacy training college, driving and boda boda projects. The Foundation also sponsors and
organizes various sporting events for the youth. The flagship water project has so far donated over 22,000 tanks to the community.
